Workflow Overview
beginner conceptsVoxel Studio groups six distinct workflows under a single shell. Every workspace follows the same pattern:
Shared layout
- Top bar - global search, sort order, thumbnail size toggle.
- Left sidebar - tab switcher (Materials, MicroVoxels, Custom Voxels, Palettes, Characters, Animations) and category list for the active tab.
- Centre grid - cards for every item that matches the current category, search and filters.
- Right-hand panel - a 3D viewer for the selected item plus its metadata, vote/favorite controls and action buttons (Edit, Duplicate, Export, Download).
The six tabs
Materials
PBR texture sets (albedo, normal, displacement, metallic, roughness, AO, emission). Browse, blend, grade and download.
MicroVoxels
Small coloured grids (typically 16 cubed) used inside Voxel Play 4 chunks or as detail decorations. Seeded library plus a lightweight editor.
Custom Voxels
Arbitrarily sized voxel models that export as a standalone Unity package. Best for props, vehicles, statues, mechs - anything bigger than a single chunk cell.
Palettes
Named colour sets that you can reuse across micro-voxels, custom voxels and character meshes.
Characters
Rigged voxel characters: humanoids, quadrupeds, undead and dragons. Built on top of rig templates with per-bone meshes.
Animations
Keyframed animation clips attached to a rig template. Clips work on any character that uses the same rig.
Moving between tabs
Selection and view state (mode, active item, category, search, sort, light intensity) are persisted in localStorage so switching tabs and returning is lossless. Closing the tab, restoring a session or reloading the page lands you exactly where you left off.
