Volumetric Fog & Mist 2 for Unity Built-in RP

What is Volumetric Fog & Mist 2?

Volumetric Fog & Mist 2 is an advanced full-screen post-processing effect for Unity's Built-in Render Pipeline that adds realistic volumetric fog, mist, dust, clouds and atmospheric effects to your scenes. It uses an optimized ray-marching algorithm to deliver high-quality volumetric rendering with extensive customization options.

Desktop/Console only — due to the nature of the ray-marching algorithm, this asset is not suitable for mobile devices. For mobile, use Dynamic Fog & Mist (also included in the package).

Key Features

Fog Rendering

  • Ray-Marching Engine — physically-based volumetric fog with configurable quality steps.
  • Fog Profiles — save and load presets; transition between profiles at runtime.
  • Fog Volumes — define zones where fog properties change automatically on enter/exit.
  • Fog Areas — restrict fog rendering to box or sphere containers with terrain-fit support.
  • Elevated Fog & Clouds — render fog above the camera to simulate floating clouds.

Lighting & Shadows

  • Sun Alignment — fog reacts automatically to directional light direction, intensity and color.
  • Point Lights — up to 16 point lights illuminate the fog with customizable range and color.
  • Light Scattering (God Rays) — screen-space light shafts from the sun, with diffusion and sun-shaft modes.
  • Sun Shadows — directional light shadows cast over the fog with cookie support.
  • Depth Blur — blurs the color buffer under the fog for additional scattering simulation.

Special Effects

  • Fog of War — reveal or hide fog areas dynamically with per-pixel control and auto-restore.
  • Fog Void — spherical or box-shaped clear areas (ideal for third-person character visibility).
  • Geometry Mask — use mesh shapes to define complex fog boundaries.
  • Sky Haze — atmospheric haze at the horizon.

Compatibility & Integration

  • VR Ready — full support for Single-Pass and Multi-Pass Stereo Rendering.
  • Orthographic Camera — supported via shader define.
  • Shader Integration — embed fog into custom surface or vertex/fragment shaders.
