Smart Focus

Smart Focus automatically finds the best unoccluded viewpoint for the currently selected object. Instead of manually orbiting to find a clear view, Smart Focus evaluates multiple candidate angles and picks the one with the least obstruction.

How to Use

  • Toolbar button - Click the Smart Focus button in the Scene Pilot Pro toolbar overlay.
  • Browse Window - Double-click any object in the Browse Window.
  • Right-click menu - Right-click an object in the Browse Window and select Smart Focus.

Cycling Through Viewpoints

Click Smart Focus again on the same object to cycle through alternative viewpoints. Each click picks the next best angle from the ranked candidates. This is useful when the first viewpoint is not ideal for your needs.

Tip - Selecting a different object resets the cycle. The next Smart Focus click will start fresh with the best viewpoint for the new object.

How It Works

Smart Focus evaluates 26 candidate viewpoints distributed on a hemisphere around the object:

  • 4 elevation rings (8 + 8 + 6 + 4 positions) covering different heights and angles
  • Each candidate is tested for occlusion using 7 sample points on the target object bounds
  • Candidates are ranked by clearance (how many sample points are visible)
  • The camera smoothly flies to the best unoccluded position

Best Practices

  • Works best with objects that have visible renderers (meshes, sprites, UI)
  • For very large objects, the camera may need to pull back further - zoom in manually after focusing
  • For objects fully enclosed inside other geometry (e.g., inside a building), all viewpoints may be partially occluded - Smart Focus will pick the least obstructed one
  • Smart Focus respects the object bounds, so objects with oversized colliders but small meshes may produce unexpected framing
